Good Companions celebrates the birthdays and enduring legacy of Misha Mengelberg (June 5, 1935 – March 3, 2017) and Louis Andriessen (June 6, 1939 – July 1, 2021). These two close friends—both composers and improvisers—not only reshaped Dutch music but also left a profound mark on the international music scene.

An evening of musical encounters and surprises
On Friday evening, June 5, Good Companions demonstrates that the work of great artists extends beyond completed compositions. Their influence continues through archives, musical friendships, rediscoveries, and new generations of performers. A diverse ensemble pays tribute, featuring the powerful ICP Orchestra, Cristina Zavalloni, Gerard Bouwhuis, Heleen Hulst, and De Kickers led by Jan Maarten Koeman.
New album: Unfiltered (2026)
Prior to the main program, students from the HKU Utrecht Conservatory will present a preview of De Schat van Scharlaken Rackham, a piece composed by Louis Andriessen in 1970 for the Utrecht Music School. This preview takes place in the Atrium at 7:45 PM.
