Haar motto? Dance with a smile!

DJ Miss Brown is one of the best all-round DJs in The Netherlands. With her cheerful appearance, broad knowledge of music and sense of audience, she is the best in taking any event to the "next level". She regularly performs on stage with live musicians such as a singer, percussionist, saxophonist and / or trumpet player. DJ Miss Brown started 19 years ago with old Soul &, Hip Hop / Jazz and R&B, later with Disco, Funk, Classics, 90s and House. She still plays every weekend as a resident DJ at many clubs, private parties and hotels in (a.o.) Amsterdam. She also produces her own funky tracks (soon to be released) under her full name ‘Raphaella Brown’ at IAMM entertainment. (Photo by: Charline Goud)

Emy Perez is a talented singer and songwriter with many songs on her name. Thanks to her stage presence, talent and powerful voice, she has just signed a contract with Cloud 9 Music. In short, she can now be admired in a small setting before she will only fill the large halls. Especially for the Red Light Jazz Festival at Bar TwentySeven, they are once again a duo and will give their all for a "Soulful & Sexy" night out.

This 21-piece big band fuses jazz and flamenco. Special guest: Carles Benavent, renowned bass guitarist from Paco de Lucia’s Sextet and Chick Corea’s Flamenco Heart.

The bass is a central theme for this year’s edition of the Red Light Jazz Festival, which originated in the Red Light District and will now collaborate with Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the BIMHUIS. Especially for this occasion the BvR Flamenco Big Band welcomes a remarkable guest: Spanish bass guitarist Carles Benavent. Together with legendary flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía and band he developed a new flamenco language, which connected with prevalent jazz and fusion styles. During his fruitful career, Carles collaborated with, among others, Camarón de la Isla and Chick Corea.

The BvR Flamenco Big Band is a unique phenomenon, a 21-piece jazz ensemble conceived around a core of flamenco protagonists. The band was founded by Hispano-Dutch saxophonist Bernard van Rossum. He takes flamenco harmonies and rhythms to another level through colorful compositions and orchestrations. The band previously collaborated with harmonica virtuoso Antonio Serrano and vocalist David de Jacoba, who both come from Paco de Lucía’s band as well.

‘I heard some new territory that night. Modern, innovative, and highly skillful compositions that did not diminish in any way the soul of flamenco’ (Kenny Werner on BvR Flamenco Big Band).

Rayn steps in the future, leaving footsteps from his debut-album A creation from the soul. What a ride it was. Rayn is now working on a follow-up titled Back II Business which will be released world wide, digital & physical, in 2019. Back II Business will contain 10 tracks of 70’s/80’s groove and dance music. It’s a mixture of different soul and funk flavors melted together to form one solid foundation and story. The voice and the lyrics of Rayn are filled with emotion.

Rayn’s music is inspired by legends from the pas, records he listened to in his youth. This inspiration moved him in the right direction to find his groove and melodies. The lyrics of every song are autobiographic.

“People say I’m old-school but I believe an album is a full story which you only will understand and feel if you listen to all songs from the beginning until the end. Especially when the artist writes and creates his own art. So press play and enjoy the ride!”

Rayn wrote lyrics, produced, engineered, edited, programmed, recorded percussion keyboard synths and arranged all the songs, one by one, assisted by a talented team of people. Rayn worked with some of the finest international musicians in his network, including names that worked on his first album. One of them is guitarist Lorijn von Piekartz, who is a regular player at the Bulldog Hotel with his brother Daniel. Lorijn is also known as the guitarist in the band of Dutch singer MAAN. He is also guitarist of the band of The Voice of Holland.

Accordionist Eddy Hoorenman is a fan of Johnny Meijer and has copied his style of playing. Drummer Huub Eikenboom is a fan of John Engels and Cesar Zuiderwijk (Golden Earring). He’s got the same sense of swing. The two musicians have been successfully working together for years as the Rembrandt Duo.

Eddy was born in Amsterdam and still lives in the heart of the City. Through the Amsterdam music school, an accordion club and private lessons, Eddy was young when he started playing at parties. At one of his performances he met his idol Johnny Meijer. A good and friendly contact was established. Johnny played once at the San Remo bar when he asked Eddy to replace him. In 1974 is was the first time Eddy played with bassist/singer Manke Nelis.

Huub was born and raised in Maastricht. Becoming a drummer was his childhood dream. Immediately after school he started working in Germany, Belgium and later on the Canary Islands (Spain). In the 1970s Huub decided to continue his career in Amsterdam. There he played in Restaurant Dubois where he met Johnny Jordaan, Aunt Leen, Willy Alberti, Imca Marina and other artists from the Amsterdam music scene. In a club named The Shorts of London, Eddy and Huub formed the Trio Manke Nelis with bassist Manke Melis. They became nationally known with hits such as “Kleine Jodeljongen”, “Laat de hele boel maar waaien” and “Ik zing mijn serenade”. It was the beginning of a unique collaboration.

The sound of Mosquito can best be described as a combination of Funk, R&B, Reggae, Country and Latin Jazz, in which the tight harmonious singing of the band is central.

The Amsterdam band was founded in 2004 by singer/guitarist Theo "Mosquito" Taihitu and drummer/singer Albert "Buddy" la Fonteine. After several changes in the formation, Mosquito really took shape in 2007 when the missing link presented itself: the Venezuelan metal bassist / singer José Gregorio Rangel Abreu, known from the band LABERINTO. By combining the different musical backgrounds of the band members, their passion for tequila and rum, Mosquito has meanwhile developed a style and sound of its own that makes you want to dance.

During Red Light Jazz 2019, Mosquito treats the public on a musical journey that appeals to the imagination, with exhilarating Caribbean rhythms and hilarious but sometimes heart-breaking stories. Always with a wink and a great sense of humor.

Hans Dulfer (1940) is one of Holland's best known and most versatile musicians and highly acclaimed saxophonists. He closely follows the latest trends, but maintains to be a typical jazz musician. For many years Hans prefers to perform on stage rather than in the recording studio. When in the nineties he finally becomes serious about recording, large-scale success follows in the Netherlands and even a star status in Japan.

Cyril Directie (1970) has been a side man for Hans Dulfer for almost two decades and is also one of Hollands most wanted drummers. Cyril worked with many Dutch and international artists and is also producing records. After a period of almost 15 years not recording or releasing any new solo material, Cyril convinced Hans to hit the studio to produce an album based on saxophone and drums. Guests players Candy Dulfer, Henny Vrienten and others joined the project.

The result is a unique album: DUO DULFER DIRECTIE, released in 2018 by ZIP RECORDS.

Tijs Klaassen is a double bass player and composer who grew up within the Amsterdam jazz scene. During the last four months of 2017, he studied in Philadelphia and New York with greats such as Ron Carter, Ben Street and David Wong. Although all that Tijs learned during his studies in US was of enormous importance to him, it made him realize just how much he values his European roots.

Tijs therefore strives to naturally combine the timbre and concepts of the great European composers from the 20th century with those of modern jazz musicians. This objective led him to form his own quintet with like-minded musicians. The band members were not only brought together because of their excellent playing, but also because all are composers themselves. Each musician therefore approaches the pieces as a performer as well as a co-writer. The end result is a constantly evolving group sound that reflects both European classical music and the energy of the contemporary American jazz scene.

The band members all belong to the new generation of Amsterdam jazz musicians who are very active within the Dutch jazz scene.
