Caravan Sessions

In Caravan Sessions pianist and composer Julian Schneemann invites musical friends to join him in his adventure; a face to face with musicians from all genres and backgrounds. In changing duos, the artists hear, challenge and inspire each other to discover new musical worlds. On this special night, De Waalse Kerk (The Walloon Church) will form the inspiring scene for several duo sets, with guest like the Turkish ney-player and singer Sinan Arat and blues guitarist Dusty Ciggaar.

Julian Schneemann (1992) was raised by classical musicians, educated by jazz masters and surrounded by popular culture. Working with musicians from all over the globe, he learned from all kinds of cultures, like Arabic, African, South American and Indian. All these influences have been formative for his musical identity and in his imaginative piano playing and composing, Julian likes to exploit this diversity.

Currently, Julian’s main focus is on his project Caravan: A journey through the worlds of classical, jazz and folk. Since the start of the project in 2017, the group has played at the great stages in the Netherlands, like the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Paradiso, De Doelen and the Bimhuis, and festivals like the Grachtenfestival and November Music. The group played live on national TV and performed their music on radio several times. No matter where they play or for whom, they make the audience cry, laugh and dream about places they have never been.

Ramón Valle is considered one of the best Latin Jazz pianists in the world. After his birth in Holguin, Cuba, Ramón grew up in a musical family. From an early age he became interested in the piano and started a classical study. At the age of 20 he graduated cum laude at the Havana Conservatory.

In Cuba, Ramón plays with national heroes such as Silvio Rodriguez, Emiliano Salvador and Santiago Feliu. Despite his classical background, Ramón became passionate about jazz and decided to go to Europe to further develop his own sound. He settled in the Netherlands in 1997 to discover the world of jazz and entered into international partnerships with, among others, Roy Hargrove, Marcus Miller and Chucho Valdes. In the Netherlands, Valle also immediately joined the Dutch top, such as Eric Vloeimans, Jesse van Ruller, Reinier Baas, Benjamin Herman, Martin Fondse, Tania Cross and Ruth Jacott.

With his live performances, Ramón inspired more than 200,000 visitors to his concerts. He sold out the Concertgebouw during the Robeco Summer series and played several times at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Shortly after his first North Sea Jazz performance, Ramón was called "the surprise of the festival" in the media. Ramón has since been a welcome guest at VPRO’s Free Sounds, Opium Radio and Sublime FM.

In 2018, Ramón Valle wins the Cubadisco Award, Cuba's most prestigious music prize, for his album The Art Of Two in the "Best Instrumental Album" category. In the same year, Ramón writes composition for the Ricciotti Ensemble: a legendary street orchestra in which 40 promising young musicians, with Ramón as guest soloist, reinvent their music genres. Their visit to Cuba in 2018 was the first time that an entire Dutch orchestra performed in Cuba. A series was made about this which was broadcast by In 2019, Ramón received an honorary award for his work as a pianist and composer.
