Alex Rossi - World-class harmonica.

Alex Rossi | harmonica

Alexandre “Alex” Rossi, born in 1974 in Blumenau, southern Brazil, used to pass a harmonica factory on his way to school. When he once visited that factory, he found that no one who worked there could really play the instrument.

At the age of 13, Alex first put his lips to the cold metal of his own harmonica. The young musician developed his own technique, using knowledge from the factory as well as practical experience with saxophone and percussion.

From Texas to South America

From the age of eighteen, Alex played at international jazz festivals, and that laid the foundation for his professional musical career. He moved to Texas and played with such blues circuit luminaries as Hash Brown, Smokin’ Joe Kubeck, Holland K. Smith, Tutu Jones, Lucky Peterson, Texas Slim and the legendary Sam Meyers.

After a family visit to Brazil, Alex was not allowed to enter the U.S., and continued to develop in his native country. He taught and toured extensively. During those tours, he played with David Honeyboy Edwards, Phil Guy, John Primer, Jeff Healey, Billy Branch and Joshua Redman, among others.

Albums and international career

In 2007, Alex released his first solo album: Let Me In on the Texas label TopCat Records. In 2008 he moved to Antwerp, where he got a distribution deal from Belgian label Blues Boulevard-Music Avenue.

This was followed in 2010 by the album Acoustic with guitarist Greg Wilson, and 2011 saw the release of Sessions, a compilation featuring such blues friends as Fernando Noronha and Solon Fishbone. He also contributed to the film score of The Zig Zag Kid, featuring Isabella Rossellini.

Jazz, Jobim and an ode to Toots

In 2013, he released Alex Rossi Quartet plays Tom Jobim, with guest contributions by Mauricio Einhorn, Ludovic Beier and others. That same year, Alex moved to Amsterdam, where he performed regularly at Bethany’s Jazz Club, including during the first edition of the Red Light Jazz Festival in 2014.

In the fall of 2016, he produced the album Tribute to the Great Toots Thielemans, on which he collaborated with Gabriel Grossi, Grégoire Maret, Antonio Serrano, Franco Luciani and Olivier Ker Ourio to perform a musical tribute to Toots Thielemans, who passed away in 2016.

David Golek - Narrative Guitar between Jazz and World Music

David Golek | Guitar

Guitarist and composer David Golek has been active on the jazz scene and in world music groups for many years. With a personal, recognizable style and musical language, David – inspired by his roots and experiences – expresses his own musical identity.
