Ronald Snijders – Musical Pioneer with Global Impact

Since the 1970s, Ronald Snijders has been one of the most renowned Surinamese musicians—both in Suriname and far beyond. A true global citizen of music, he is a creative powerhouse and an exceptionally versatile and talented artist. As a top performer and composer, he is especially celebrated for his virtuosic flute playing.

Snijders was born in 1951 in Paramaribo, the son of acclaimed composer, conductor, and flutist Eddy Snijders.

Honors and High-Level Performances

In 2022, he was awarded the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize, the highest national jazz award in the Netherlands, followed by an extensive tour in 2023. The jury unanimously praised him as an artist with tireless musical curiosity and a constant drive for innovation.

Last year, Ronald Snijders performed a solo flute piece during the Keti Koti wreath-laying ceremony attended by King Willem-Alexander, and appeared at the North Sea Jazz Festival as well as on NPO’s Podium Klassiek.

A Rich Discography and International Recognition

Earlier this year, an exclusive 5-LP box set was released in the UK, featuring his first four albums along with the brand-new LP Penta. His music is even mentioned in the same breath as legends like Miles Davis, Weather Report, and Prince by the esteemed British Ezra Collective—winners of the Mercury Award.

The Ronald Snijders Band – Boundary-Breaking and Swinging

With the current Ronald Snijders Band, musical boundaries are pushed and redefined. World music genres such as kaseko, kawina, Latin, and Brazilian rhythms blend effortlessly with jazz, classical music, pop, and more. The result is a dynamic, genre-defying, and irresistibly swinging experience that sweeps the audience along for the ride!
