In 2002, like-minded individuals DJ Phil Horneman and Manne van der Zee joined forces to organize parties that represented their love for jazz music in the broadest sense.
Since then, Wicked Jazz Sounds has grown into a household name in the Amsterdam music scene. It stands for creating a unique mix on the spot of jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, broken beat, house, drum & bass, and more. DJ Phil Horneman continues to put this into practice almost daily in 2025.
Philip Lassister's Soul Church
American trumpeter Philip Lassiter is rooted in Texas Funk, Alabama Gospel, New Orleans Jazz, and Nashville Soul. The eleven-time Grammy Award-winning horn and string arranger was the section leader and arranger for Prince and The New Power Generation.
In addition to his work with Prince, Lassiter also served as arranger and trumpeter for iconic artists such as Kirk Franklin, Ariana Grande, Timbaland, Roberta Flack, Jill Scott, Kelly Rowland, Fantasia, Anderson .Paak, Queen Latifah, Al Jarreau, Fred Hammond, The Isley Brothers, and countless other top artists. He has performed on stages, at festivals, and in stadiums around the world, and has also appeared as a musician on shows hosted by Arsenio Hall, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon.
Wide-ranging and soulful at the core
As the son of a preacher, Philip learned early on how to captivate an audience, an experience he later channeled into his own musical mission. During a stay in St. Louis, he discovered his love for big bands and the beauty of improvisation. In Florida, he immersed himself in salsa and merengue and honed his natural talent as a jazz pianist.
Eight years in Dallas, under the wings of artists such as Kirk Franklin, Bernard Wright, Snarky Puppy, and Erykah Badu, brought him recognition in the gospel and funk scenes. In Nashville, he further expanded his musical portfolio and founded his 14-piece soul/funk band Philthy.

Led by Brazilian saxophonist Lucas Figueiredo Santana, who lives in the Netherlands, the Amsterdam Funk Orchestra brings the Samba Soul Show to Olof’s on Saturday, June 7 featuring none other than the Brazilian-Dutch powerhouse vocalist Lilian Vieira!
Lilian Vieira
Since moving to the Netherlands at the age of 23, Lilian Vieira has developed exceptional improvisational skills and a charismatic stage presence. Her role in the acclaimed band Zuco 103 played a major part in this evolution. Over the years, Lilian has collaborated with a wide range of jazz, soul and funk bands, as well as DJs. More recently, she has returned to her musical roots: singing popular Brazilian music and classic acoustic samba.
The Netherlands’ largest funk band performs works by Gilberto Gil, Banda Black Rio, and Seu Jorge at Olof’s in special arrangements created for the Amsterdam Funk Orchestra by Efraïm Trujillo.
