Mascini Jazzduo - with Itai Weissman
Especially for the Red Light Jazz festival, Mascini has formed a permanent duo consisting of piano and guitar, which has invited a special guest soloist every day of the festival. On Friday afternoon, June 6, the duo Berend van den Berg (piano) and Joep Lumeij (guitar) will play in the café with guest soloist Itai Weissman (saxophone).
Berend van den Berg: Jazz as Second Nature
At a young age, when Berend van den Berg began playing the piano, he already loved improvising, arranging, and composing. Once he discovered the pioneers of jazz, playing jazz music became his second nature. Performing with other musicians in front of an audience has been a lifelong inner drive for Berend.
Joep Lumeij: From Blues to Jazz Pioneer
Joep Lumeij traveled with numerous theater and music productions throughout the Netherlands and Europe. Blues was his first love. Later he discovered jazz, without forgetting the blues. Lumeij was themusical leader of the Dutch singing group Deep River Quartet for eleven years. He also played withthe Millennium Jazz Orchestra with which he performed with many international (jazz) soloists.
Itai Weissman: Pioneer on the EWI
Saxophonist Itai Weissman specializes in the EWI (electric wind instrument). He played and plays in various (inter)national jazz and pop formations. Since graduating from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Weissman has been a teacher there.
