Philip Lassiter's Soul Church – Funk, Gospel, and Pure Energy
American trumpeter Philip Lassiter is deeply rooted in Texas Funk, Alabama Gospel, New Orleans Jazz, and Nashville Soul. The eleven-time Grammy Award-winning horn and string arranger was section leader and arranger for Prince and The New Power Generation.
In addition to his work with Prince, Lassiter has arranged and played trumpet for iconic artists including Kirk Franklin, Ariana Grande, Timbaland, Roberta Flack, Jill Scott, Kelly Rowland, Fantasia, Anderson. Paak, Queen Latifah, Al Jarreau, Fred Hammond, The Isley Brothers, and countless other top performers. He has played on stages, at festivals, and in stadiums around the world, and has made appearances on The Arsenio Hall Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Broadly Trained, Deeply Rooted
The son of a preacher, Philip learned early on how to captivate an audience experience he later channeled into his own musical mission. While living in St. Louis, he discovered his love for big bands and the power of improvisation. In Florida, he immersed himself in salsa and merengue and refined his natural talent as a jazz pianist.
Eight years in Dallas, under the wings of artists like Kirk Franklin, Bernard Wright, Snarky Puppy, and Erykah Badu, brought him acclaim in the gospel and funk scenes. In Nashville, he expanded his musical portfolio and founded his 14-piece soul/funk band Philthy.
