The lyrical saxophonist Arthur Heuwekemeijer is a familiar face at the Red Light Jazz Festival. He performs selections from the rich Dutch song tradition, wrapped in what he calls a “golden coat of jazz.” Nostalgic melodies such as Aan de Amsterdamse Grachten, De Motten, Laat me, Het Dorp, Telkens Weer, In ’t Groene Dal, and Roodborstje take center stage.
Arthur’s jazz arrangements fit like a glove, inviting listeners to relive bygone times. It starts with a quiet hum and before you know it, the entire audience is singing along at full voice.
