Hermine Deurloo, Gwylim Simcock & Mike Walker
It’s primarily the exciting location, the internationally renowned and illustrious Red Light District in the old city center of Amsterdam, that makes the Red Light Jazz festival so unique. This years edition will again feature concerts in the Wallonian Church (De Waalse Kerk).
On Friday evening June 7th Dutch harmonica player Hermine Deurloo is coming to the Wallonian Church with two jazz giants: Gwilym Simcock and Mike Walker (The Impossible Gentlemen). They have a unique collaboration with Hermine since they met each other at the Ambleside Jazz Festival. Their musical love of total breadth – from rock to classical and folk to jazz – makes these three exceptional improvisation gods find each other effortlessly in a breathtaking exploration of rich harmonies and catchy melodies.
Hermine Deurloo has rapidly developed into the most important voice on the harmonica.
Gwilym Simcock can be counted among the “Inner Circle” of great contemporary pianists including Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. He has also toured with classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alongside such jazz heroes as Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler and Lee Konitz. His solo playing is legendary.
Mike Walker is a British guitar legend, having performed with Kenny Wheeler and Steve Swallow.
The concert of these three giants will take you on a breathtaking exploration of rich harmonies, catchy melodies and groovy rhythms.
