Candy Dulfer

The Red Light Jazz dinner is the highlight of every edition of the annual Red Light Jazz festival. As in 2023, the exclusive event will once again take place on the final day of the 11th edition of the jazz festival in the Grand Ballroom of Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam.

At the entrance of the ballroom, guests are received as VIPs, after which they’re escorted to their reserved seats at a table for four. That’s where they’ll enjoy Chef Marco van Rutten’s 3-course menu and wine pairing especially created for Red Light Jazz 2024. During the dinner, DJ Phil Horneman will play Wicked Jazz Sounds, whereas a live concert by Candy Dulfer and her fabulous jazz band will take place after dinner.

Wicked Jazz Sounds has been well known within the Dutch music world, especially as a successful musical platform, for the past 20 years. The music collective played at legendary Sunday club nights in various Amsterdam locations on a non-stop basis for some 18 years, until the coronavirus pandemic put an end to these in 2020. However, since Easter 2024, the iconic club nights have returned in full force. Wicked Jazz Sounds is also known for radio programs, a series of compilation CDs, two band albums as well as the popular playlist TIP44 on Spotify with many thousands of followers.

In addition to Prince, sax player Candy Dulfer has worked – both in the studio and on stage – with some of the biggest names in music, including Van Morrison, Maceo Parker, Sheila E., Mavis Staples, Lionel Richie, Beyoncé, Pink Floyd, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, and many others.

Despite these high-profile collaborations, Candy primarily continues to focus on her successful solo career. She started her own band at the age of 13 and has been touring the world ever since. Her first solo album ‘Saxuality’ earned her a Grammy Award nomination, the combined worldwide sales of her solo albums amount to more than 2.5 million copies, and she has had several number 1 hits in the US.

In between many concert tours around the globe, Candy found the time to join the Dutch supergroup the Ladies of Soul. The popular group, which is comprised of four top Dutch female performers, has for many years featured in sold-out concerts at the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome, and is the headline act on Jazz Cruises in the US and Europe. Candy is also ambassador for the Dutch ALS Foundation.

In the fall of 2017, she released her autobiography ‘Sax, Candy & Rock-’n’-Roll’ (in Dutch) in which she tells her personal story. Illustrated with dozens of never-before-seen photos, it’s an intimate and deeply personal account of her life, onstage and offstage, featuring unique insights into life on the road, funny backstage stories about working with some of music’s greatest artists, and inspiring life lessons learned from traveling the world.

In 2021 Candy signed a new record deal with the Mascot Label Group and released her latest album ‘We Never Stop’ in 2022. The album includes a track with Nile Rodgers of Chic fame.

After an extensive year of touring and promoting her latest album in 2023 and by popular demand, she’s returning to festival and club stages all over Europe, Japan, and the US in 2024. With her passionate stage presence, inspiring and uplifting musical message and accompanied by top-class musicians, she’s ready to hit the stage at the 11th Red Light Jazz Festival. Don’t miss Candy Dulfer and her jazz band at what promises to be an unforgettable Red Light Jazz 2024 dinner event!
