Alex Hitchcock – Same moon
‘Same Moon in the Same World’ is a line from a novel by Haruki Murakami. It’s also the title of the ambitious album by tenor saxophonist Alex Hitchcock and guitarist Ant Law. These top talents from British jazz have recorded an album with star players from Londen, New York and Amsterdam. This led to a new band that builds on the sound of the album: energetic, melodic and well-balanced.
The inspiration for Same Moon is the idea that, whilst people may be in separate places geographically, they have shared truths: musical language, human experience, emotions. From our unique vantage points, we are all staring at the same moon. All four band members are featured on the album Same Moon in the Same World, alongside famous jazz musicians such as Linda May Han Oh, Kendrick Scott and Jeff Ballard.
‘Ridiculous technique and harmonic proficiency combined with this progressive creativity that sees him leading the charge in terms of new jazz music in the UK’
(BBC Jazz World about Alex Hitchcock).
‘What a game changer he can be’
(The Guardian over Ant Law).
