Michael Simon's Asian Connection
Michael Simon lives in Rotterdam and is best known in the Netherlands as a band member of Fra Fra Sound and the Rob Mostert Hammond Group. Michael has developed into a versatile trumpeter, composer and arranger of international significance. The prestigious online magazine Latin Jazz Network described him as “a shape-shifting instrumentalist”.
During his career Michael discovered that making music is limitlessly accessible. Language barriers, music genres or cultural backgrounds do not stand in the way of collaboration in music making. Michael entered into surprising collaborations with foreign artists. Michael Simon’s Asian Connection is one of those projects; a musical world in which you learn to discover the beauty of Asian melodies in a unique and seamless way. Jazz mixed with Chinese folk music. It all comes together on the album “Asian Connection” and in his latest “East, West & Beyond” which produces a unique combination that is one of a kind and very pleasant to the ear.
Taiwanese Pipa (Chinese lute) player Fan-Qi Wu is the special guest this evening in the Sea Palace Restuarant. She comes especially from Sweden for the tour linked to the release of the album “East, West & Beyond”.
Fan-Qi Wu, saxophonist Claudio Jr De Rosa and Michael are the frontline of the band, they will be supported by a rhythm section of excellent jazz musicians from the Netherlands. Michael Simon’s Asian Connection already gave memorable concerts at the Taichung Jazz Festival in Taiwan and at the Borneo Jazz Festival in Malaysia. This special international collaboration can now be enjoyed at Sea Palace during the 11th Red Light Jazz festival.
