In a short time, Ella Zirina has developed into a guitarist who has become an essential presence in the Dutch jazz scene. NRC named her among the ‘rising stars of 2025.’ Now she performs no fewer than two sets in one evening: first as a duo with her guitar counterpart Teis Semey, followed by her own trio, where her original compositions take center stage.

While Ella Zirina has a passion for melody and tone color, Teis Semey has built a reputation with a very different guitar sound: wild, erratic, and raw. The Danish guitarist’s style has been described as ‘Nordic punk-free jazz.’ What unites them is their shared love of music and their drive to improvise without compromise.

An Energetic Trio with International Flair
Since her debut album on BIMHUIS Records in 2023, Ella Zirina has released three more albums under her own name. Across these recordings, she has performed in various line-ups with renowned musicians such as Tineke Postma, Ben van Gelder, and Alistair Payne, building a diverse body of original work. In her trio, her music takes on an energetic and nuanced dimension, thanks to New York-based bassist Felix Moseholm and in-demand Amsterdam drummer Jamie Peet.
