Album Presentation: Brightness & Darkness
Recently, NOHMI released their second album Brightness & Darkness, which they will present at the Red Light Jazz Festival in De Waalse Kerk.
Musical Inspiration and Style
Brightness & Darkness is a musical exploration deeply inspired by the impressionist masters Ravel and Debussy. Their harmonic language, textures, and atmospheric depth shape the sonic world of this album, in which each piece unfolds like a painting—fluid, suggestive, and emotionally layered.
Light and Shadow as a Concept
The concept connects to the natural interplay of light and shadow, similar to the visual impressionists who captured fleeting moments in nature. Here, light represents hope, clarity, and human connection; darkness refers to the complexity of emotions, struggle, and the hidden layers of modern society.
Personal and Societal Reflection
Through this contrast, the album reflects not only personal introspection, but also a broader contemplation of the social structure of our world—its beauty, inequality, and quiet tensions.

Tim Garland Lighthouse Trio
The Tim Garland Lighthouse Trio is a remarkable acoustic ensemble founded twenty years ago by saxophonist Tim Garland. The band features Garland, pianist Gwilym Simcock, and drummer/percussionist Asaf Sirkis, and is known for their strong interplay and musical interaction.
Experienced Musicians and a Unique Sound
Each of the three musicians has an impressive background: Garland gained recognition through his work with Chick Corea, Simcock performed for many years with Pat Metheny, and Sirkis is notably associated with Soft Machine. Their music blends influences from jazz fusion, folk, and classical music, with Sirkis standing out for his use of Middle Eastern frame drums.
20th Anniversary and New Projects
In 2024, the trio celebrated its 20th anniversary with concerts centered around the project Moment Of Departure, a collaboration with artist Esra Kizir Gokcen. This project also resulted in a new album with the Britten Sinfonia and violinist Thomas Gould. The anniversary tour in the United Kingdom was highly successful, featuring sold-out performances at major festivals.
International Tour and Red Light Jazz
In 2025 and 2026, the trio continued its anniversary tour across Europe and beyond, including a performance at the Red Light Jazz Festival in De Waalse Kerk.
