SANEM KALFA

A unique voice between cello and improvisation

Sanem Kalfa, born in Turkey, is a singer, improviser, composer, and cellist based in Amsterdam. Kalfa brings together her background as a cellist with the broad vocabulary she has developed over the years as a vocalist and improviser. The result is a unique sound that expresses the full diversity of her musical vision.

Award-winning artist with an international career

In her singing career, she has received several awards, including first prize at the Shure Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition, presided over by Quincy Jones.

In 2014, she released her debut album “Nehir.” In May 2018, her second album “DANCE” was released, a duo with George Dumitriu. Her most recent album with George Dumitriu and Joachim Badenhorst, “Black Sea Songs,” was released in 2021. In addition, she has contributed as a side musician to many other releases and has performed throughout Europe.
