Unique in the jazz world: Double Espresso
Double Espresso is the only all-female improvising jazz saxophone quartet in the world, consisting of two alto saxophones and two baritone saxophones.
From jazz classics to personal stories
They perform swinging pieces by early piano masters such as Zez Confrey, Jelly Roll Morton, and Duke Ellington, combined with original compositions inspired by personal stories from the quartet’s surroundings. They also play arrangements of music by their jazz heroes, including bassist and bandleader Charles Mingus.
A distinctive sound since the BIMHUIS (2003)
Double Espresso was founded in 2003 at the BIMHUIS. Since then, the quartet has developed its own distinctive sound, featuring exciting arrangements, fiery solos, and subtle interplay within this unique instrumentation.
