Berend van den Berg - Joep Lumeij & Marco Kegel

A Close-Knit Jazz Trio at Café Mascini

Marco Kegel – lyrical and swinging

Marco Kegel graduated from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague at the age of 22. Ferdinand Povel and Frank Elsen were his most influential teachers. During his studies, Marco already performed as a soloist with the Rein de Graaff Trio and as lead saxophonist with the Dutch Jazz Orchestra. He is currently the lead saxophonist of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. His playing is characterized by a lyrical, passionate and swinging style.

Berend van den Berg – driven by improvisation

When Berend van den Berg started playing piano at a young age, he was already drawn to improvisation, arranging and composing. After discovering the pioneers of jazz, playing jazz music became second nature to him. Performing and collaborating with other musicians for a live audience has been a lifelong inner drive.

Joep Lumeij – from blues to jazz

Joep Lumeij has toured extensively across the Netherlands and Europe with numerous theatre and music productions. Blues was his first love. Later, he discovered jazz, without ever leaving the blues behind. For eleven years, Lumeij was the musical director of the Dutch vocal group Deep River Quartet. He has also performed with the Millennium Jazz Orchestra, appearing alongside many international (jazz) soloists.
