A contemporary take on hard bop
Pianist, composer, and bandleader Avishai Darash presents his new trio at Contra on Sunday, June 7, as part of the Red Light Jazz Festival. Together with drummer Joe Blaxx and bassist Omer Govreen, he explores the language of hard bop through their Heart-Bop project from a contemporary perspective.
Tradition, groove and interplay
Rooted in the jazz tradition of the 1950s and ’60s, the trio focuses on groove, clarity, and interaction. Through original compositions and arrangements, they combine a deep respect for the idiom with a modern approach. Swing is treated as a flexible and constantly evolving concept, shaped by their individual voices and collective interplay.
