Red Light Jazz is more than just a jazz festival
From Friday June 6 to Sunday June 8, 2025, the 12th edition of Red Light Jazz will take place: the unique multi-day jazz festival in and around the beating heart of Amsterdam the Red Light District.
More than a jazz festival
With performances by top musicians and young talent at many unique locations – such as historic cafés, bars, hotels, theaters, and a church, as well as an unexpected courtyard of a former monastery – Red Light Jazz shows that the world-famous Red Light District is much more than its reputation suggests.
Born from connection and enrichment
The idea to organize the Red Light Jazz festival was born in 2013 to bring jazz music closer to the people. As a place of cultural diversity, the Red Light District forms the perfect backdrop for the jazz festival: raw, vibrant, open, and rich in history. Jazz stands for freedom, improvisation, and connection. This combination makes Red Light Jazz unique.
Made possible with the support of the neighborhood
The festival is organized each year with the support of local residents, entrepreneurs, cultural institutions, and artists. Performances take place at distinctive venues throughout the area, including the Casa Rosso Theater, De Waalse Kerk, the Salvation Army’s Korpszaal, the Bulldog Hotel, the Olof Chapel, local bars and pubs, and of course, the BIMHUIS – the most renowned jazz venue in the Netherlands. The strong involvement of the neighborhood helps create a positive and multifaceted image of the Red Light District.
Cultural, economic, and social impact
In addition to its cultural significance, Red Light Jazz also has an economic and social impact. The festival attracts thousands of visitors who not only enjoy the music and the neighborhood but also contribute to the local economy. For many entrepreneurs, the Red Light Jazz weekend is one of the highlights of the year.
Jazz for everyone
As in previous editions, Red Light Jazz once again offers a diverse program this year featuring established names and emerging talent. Most performances are free of charge, reflecting the festival organization’s mission: to make jazz accessible to everyone. From local residents to tourists, and from passionate fans to curious passersby.
