New Album: Brightness & Darkness
Recently, NOHMI released their second album Brightness & Darkness, which they will present during the Red Light Jazz Festival at De Waalse Kerk.
Musical Inspiration and Style
Brightness & Darkness is a musical exploration deeply inspired by the impressionist masters Ravel and Debussy. Their harmonic language, textures, and atmospheric depth shape the sound world of this album, where each piece unfolds like a painting—fluid, suggestive, and emotionally layered.
Light and Shadow as a Theme
The concept aligns with the natural interplay of light and shadow, similar to the visual impressionists who captured fleeting moments in nature. Here, light represents hope, clarity, and human connection; darkness reflects the complexity of emotions, struggle, and the hidden layers of modern society.
Personal and Social Reflection
Through this contrast, the album reflects not only personal introspection but also a broader contemplation of the social structure of our world—its beauty, inequality, and quiet tensions.
