The Advertisers

The Advertisers play a mix of jazz, funk, blues, rock and latin; within the repertoire and even within the individual pieces. In short: fusion in the true sense of the word. Instrumental pieces are alternated with pieces with vocals and there is a lot of room for improvisation. Sophisticated interplay in combination with individual highlights.

Guitarist Mick Heine grew up with the pop music of the sixties and the jazz rock of the seventies. This resulted in Mick’s participation in a lot of funk, soul and rock bands. However, there always was the wish to be the guitar player in a jazz trio with bass and drums.

As a young teenager Philippe van Haren Noman sat down behind a drum kit and there was an immediate click. It was his start as a drummer and the love never went away. At the age of sixteen he played in his first band. Inspired by the big jazz rock bands from the seventies, he was involved in a jazz rock formation in his later teen years. During this early period Philippe also did a lot of sessions with a lot of musicians from the Amsterdam music scene. At a later age he played in the bands Roberto Q and the Boppers and Fur. Also he did a short tour in the backing band of blues harp virtuoso Magic Dick (The J. Geils Band).
Furthermore Philippe gave several live drum solos for the Amsterdam tv program ‘Hoeksteen Live’. He released two CDs: in 1997 the solo drum cd ‘PHILIPPE’ and in 2004 the CD ‘A WEEKEND IN OCTOBER’ from PHILIPPE, a six member fusion formation.
Just like guitarist Mick Heine, he wanted a trio with guitar, bass and drums. And so it happened; The Advertisers were founded in 2015.

Cees van der Laarse plays bass and jazz from age fourteen.
