In the turbulent year 1927, Charles Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic Ocean with his plane The Spirit of Saint Louis. “Lucky Lindy hops Atlantic”, headed the newspapers, and two continents suddenly lay side by side. Swinging jazz from America conquered the old continent, ensuring dance pleasure for the young, worries for parents and dignitaries. Since its foundation in 2015, Spirit of St. Louis plays authentic American swing, blues and gospel music. In a brass band setting the charismatic crooner has a central role. Good chance you will find the group in the open air: unplugged, surrounded by swing and blues dancers who show that the spirit of that time is still alive. In the summer of 2018 the band played at various festivals, among others the Zwarte Cross in Lichtenvoorde. Not on a stage, but in between the audience. Excelsior Recordings released the Spirit’s first song on March 1 2019, a catchy cover of Lucky Millinder’s Clap Your Hands, recorded and produced by Paul Willemsen (Ruben Hein, The Gospel Sessions, BRUUT!, Beans & Fatback).
