C_urb is a contemporary piano trio, formed by Co Vergouwen (keyboards and vocals), David de Marez Oyens (electric bass) and Mark Eshuis (drums and percussion). C_urb was formed spring 2007. As trio they have worked with Margriet Eshuijs, Maarten Peters, Jan Akkerman, Julian Thomas and many others. In 2016 C_urb released their first album titled ‘Pretty good’, on the Isolde-label. It contains a broad mix of contemporary Jazz, funk, Latin and fusion, with a lot of improvisation and at the same time well thought-out arrangements. Except for the C_urb-tune on the album only own compositions. C_urb must be experienced live on June 7 at the Red Light Jazz festival.

C_urb will also introduce the following bass guitar talents of the Conservatory of Amsterdam:

  • Aaron Bouwman, 21 years NL, 2nd year Bachelor. The Dutch Aäron studied at the Junior Jazz college at the CvA before being admitted to the Bachelor. Won with the Tadjiro Velzel Quartet the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours and plays with Smandem, finalist Keep an Eye Jazz award 2019
  • Mikhail Voeykov, 19 years RU, 3rd year Bachelor. This in Rostov-on-Don, Russia born talent started at the age of 7 playing the Jazz Bass and piano, at the age of 16 he was admitted to the Bachelor program Bass Guitar at the CvA he allready had released a double CD with his quartet that year.
  • Arin Keshishi, 27 years IRN, 2nd year Master. The Iranian/Armenian bass player studied Classic Double Bass in Teheran before moving to Amsterdam. Combining his own cultural background with Jazz en Fusion makes him unique. At the moment he is recording his own album with all original tunes.
  • Diarmuid Lally, 33 years IRL, 2nd year Master. This Irish bass guitar player has a very special virtuoso technique. After his studies at Berklee and his Bachelor at the CvA, he won the world renowned 2017 International Bucharest Jazz competition Diarmuid is currently pursuing a Masters in music again in Amsterdam, continuing to play around the world with his projects.

The Bass Guitar department strong embedded in the CvA, recognized as one of the best Jazz schools in Europe, started in the late eighties. Ever since taking notice of the continuing changing working field of the practicing bass guitar player. New techniques, new styles, new ways of teaching, new players. Our goal is to inspire you and take your Bass Guitar playing to the next level.
