Edu Ninck Blok Quartet ft. John Engels (openings concert)

Red Light Jazz 2018 will be officially opened on Friday June 1 at 14:00 with a tribute to trumpeter Chet Baker, who died thirty years ago in the district.

In the NH Collection Barbizon Palace Hotel will be a concert by the Edu Ninck Blok Quartet featuring John Engels. Trumpeter Edu Ninck Blok and drummer John Engels worked with Chet on stage and in the recording studio.

On bass is Jeroen de Valk, a musician and writer who authored Chets biography. Last year, he published a revised and expanded edition: ‘Chet Baker / His life and music’. The quartet is completed by guitarist Hans Knapp.

In the Barbizon Hotel, Baker is honored as well with an exhibition: photos by Paolo Gant and memorabilia from De Valk’s collection.

The quartet can be heard on the CD ‘Traces of Chesney / A tribute to Chet Baker’. Jazzism magazine wrote: ‘Engels is just the right choice for this tribute. A touching bow from one trumpeter to the other.’
